Fort Worth native Taylor Pace thinks 2019 will be his “best year to date,” and lucky Fort Worth jazz fans will get to be a part of it.
Pace is no stranger to music. Growing up in a musical family, Pace feels that music has always been a part of his life. Pace’s parents sang in church, while his father played the organ and his sisters also sing. Pace started playing piano at age 13. After graduating from Dunbar High School, he decided to study jazz piano at Howard University. In 2018, Pace produced a song that was submitted to the Grammy board. The song made it through the first round, but wasn’t nominated. However, Pace was then made a voting member of the Grammy board and attended the award show. Pace is influenced by jazz greats Chick Corea and Herbie Hancock. “I love to arrange music and create fresh takes on the classics,” he said. “They fused jazz with other styles; hip hop, funk and Spanish.” Pace follows in their footsteps seeing how well he can blend sounds fusing jazz with R&B and gospel. Pace also keeps it soulful like one of his favorites, Stevie Wonder. |
