MIDLAND – 06.15.19 – The Vaqueros headed west short of seven potential starters due to suspensions, injuries and family obligations.
The boys who traveled to Midland’s Grande Communications Stadium put up a valiant effort but unfortunately fell to the Midland-Odessa Sockers, 1-0 on Saturday.
The Vaqueros (4-1-1, 13 points) scrapped until the 84th minute before giving up the game’s lone goal to the Sockers (6-1-1, 19 points).
“The boys we had gave everything,” Vaqueros coach Nick Stavrou said. “It’s a tough pill to swallow to lose on such a late goal. For us to have a chance to win these type of games, we have to be more efficient with the few opportunities we get.”
Fort Worth goalkeeper Eduardo “Pollo” Cortes secured a slew of highlight saves throughout the game. However, Midland created its most dangerous opportunity in the 84th minute as a defensive miscue left Cortes with no chance to save the Midland shot from inside the six-yard box.
Fort Worth left Cowtown without leading scorers Jamie Lovegrove, Darren Mitchell and Declan O’Shea. Additionally midfielders/defenders Mike Jones, Roger Da Costa, Tyler Humphrey and Cameron Brown were unavailable for travel.
Fort Worth returns to NPSL Lone Star Conference play on the road at 6 p.m. Thursday against Katy 1895 FC (1-5, 3 points).
Thank you for signing up!
